This fundamental course encompasses the fashion design process from inspiration through production. Students will be introduced to the role of the designer by researching designers and exploring design elements and principles. Attention is paid to the construction of garments and the use of fabric and form, as well as inspiration documentation and design experimentation. Through figure drawing and sketching technical flats, students will cultivate tools for designing their own collection. Color, fabric and mood will be explored as students learn to convey their own personal vision. A design notebook will be kept throughout class to collect inspiration.
This course is held at the Westerly Education Center.
