Polymer clay, a colorful plastic material that is soft at room temperature but hardens when exposed to heat, is the medium for this jewelry making class. Students begin their first project, a necklace, by sculpting small amulet figures. They then make beads that are strung together with the amulets for a colorful original adornment. They move on to more delicate forms: a pair of earrings and a ring made from the same polymer clay material. Students leave with three different jewelry forms, each a variation of a versatile and low-cost sculptural material.
This course is held at the Westerly Education Center.
