All good things, and some evil ones, flourish in gardens. Tempted to discover the story of flowers, formal landscape design and tales of love and loss? They all await in the French garden. This course explores the history, horticulture, design and literature related to gardens, from the enclosed floral wonderlands of medieval castles to the orderly parterres of Versailles, to the roses beloved by Empress Josephine at Chateau de Malmaison, to the Abstract Expressionist landscapes of the 20th Century.
