The search for the ideal house has taken many forms through the ages. From prehistoric shelters and medieval hovels to Renaissance villas and modern bungalows, the story of the house is a complex tale of design, craft, environment and culture. This course examines human shelter in all of its diverse forms, from cottage to castle, across the globe. Learn how availability of materials, space, light, climate, terrain, religious beliefs, construction methods and preferences, and many other factors have led to the wide variety of living structures.
