Course Description

RISD CE kids camp: Art Aquatic

Houseboats, to cruise ships, to entire floating cities! What would lifestyles be like if the oceans rise and land dwellers have to adapt to a buoyant environment? In this camp, students will investigate the real possibilities of living on the surface of Narragansett Bay. Students will brainstorm about issues of survival and sustainability, and explore the capabilities of wind, water and solar power. Using an array of sources, such as Peruvian floating reed islands, Buckminster Fuller's portable houses, futuristic architecture, and bridge designs, they will create their own floating community. The "art aquatic" ideas will come to life through a variety of art materials and techniques, such as drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and sculpture.
