Course Description

Before sophisticated machines, buildings and civilizations, humans created textiles. Often overlooked and taken for granted, fabrics are the workhorses of our everyday life: They reinforce our cultural, spiritual and interior identities. This course will focus on interior textiles and their many uses, misuses and applications. From the many plants around us to sophisticated research labs, students will follow along as fibers become yarn and a yarn becomes a textile. Learning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of both the fiber and textile reinforces an interior designer's success.
