Course Description

Color, pattern and texture impact our perception and experience of a space. They are integral to almost all the objects within an interior space: furniture, furnishings, accessories and the interior architectural elements like walls, floors, ceilings and doors. Class begins with a brief introduction on establishing design intent, then an extensive discussion of color theories, color psychology and color perception, followed by exploration of pattern, scale and repetition in fabric, furnishings and accessories and, lastly, designing the boards. Hands-on class exercises follow class discussions on guidelines for combining patterns to create visual interest. This course provides a strong base for students to develop skills to blend materials and color palette for their design projects.
