Course Description

RISD CE course: Screen/Print

Combining two tactile printmaking techniques, silkscreen and letterpress, this class focuses on experimental methods. Students learn how to hand-set type, how to create and develop imagery, how to prepare screens and how to print letterpress and silkscreen. Color mixing, paper variables, use of transparency and overlay of type and image are investigated. Students gain exposure to and mastery of centuries-old techniques in a contemporary context. Numerous examples are shared each week for inspiration. This is a great opportunity for curious beginners and intermediate printers alike to experience a hybrid printmaking process. Please note that in addition to the lab fee, you can expect to have to buy additional supplies for this course. We try to keep this cost under $100, but for specialized courses (jewelry, wood, metals) this may be higher.
