Course Description

RISD CE kids course: The Green Art Machine

Mother Nature invites you to create art using recycled and natural materials. "Going Green" will be the theme with a look at artists who have made their works from found objects. Louise Nevelson built sculptures large and small from objects that surrounded her; Watts Towers in Los Angeles were constructed by Simon Rodia over many years, using found materials; and Deborah Butterfield created horse sculptures from found objects of wood and wire. The artists' works guide students as they create their own art, inspired by and enhanced by the environment. Both found objects and recycled materials are used to create repurposed art. Young artists create a journal to draw and hold their inspirations, with painting, sculpture and printmaking as the major mediums.
