Course Description

Interior designers use concept boards or "mood boards" as a means to communicate their vision through a collage of visual references. Swatches of fabric might be combined with paint color chips, images of furniture, drawings or a natural texture that, when combined, evoke the aura the designer intends for a space. In this course students explore the process of creating their own concept boards through considering the various aspects of composition, hierarchy, color, scale and tactility. Using the tactile resources and other supplies, students create a series of boards based on assigned themes and lifestyles. Examples of a variety of concept boards are shown, discussed and critiqued. Discussions also address which aspects of the boards translate best in a digital format.
