0840 - The Home Jewelry Studio
Course Description
This online class offers an introduction to the fundamentals of building and creating a home jewelry studio. Students who have taken previous jewelry classes and are now ready to start working from home will learn to establish safe and practical personal workspaces. Through demos and tutorials, the course will include an overview of the tools necessary to facilitate processes such as sawing, piercing, riveting, soldering, and finishing, as well as a refresher on those techniques. There will be a focus on safe practices including torch and pickle setups appropriate for the home studio. Students will complete samples of processes that can be achieved at home and will receive in-depth handouts and tool lists for future reference. Some basic tools are required to get started, then additional tools and supplies may be purchased according to each student’s interests. Common concerns and challenges will be addressed as a group. By the end of this course each student should feel refreshed in their basic skills and confident working from their new bench. Note: This course, in combination with "Wax Working for Lost Wax Casting" (0630) can be substituted for "Final Studio: Jewelry and Light Metals" (0498).
