Course Description

Designing gardens as a kind of paradise on earth has captivated humankind for centuries. Learn about landscape design and horticulture from Asia to Europe and the Americas. The asymmetrical strolling paths and clipped evergreens of the Imperial Katsura Villa in Kyoto, Japan, the lush flower gardens of India, the classical pavilions and fountains of the Villa d’Este in Tivoli, Italy, and the innovative plants and shrubs of Thomas Jefferson at Monticello are among the extraordinary historic sites to be virtually visited, each a microcosm of both the aesthetics and practice of gardening.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.
