Course Description

Film is an economic engine that is one of the most influential creative industries. Its power lies in telling relatable stories that teach and celebrate. Get your start in this multidisciplinary field by writing, directing and editing your own original short film. Learn industry-standard software as you work toward a final project. Apply principles of visual storytelling to evoke emotions in audiences. Along the way, engage in critical discussions on the history and evolution of cinema. The course will conclude with a showcase of work, celebrating the joy of storytelling through film.

Necessary Supplies

Students are responsible for purchasing their own art supplies, equipment, software subscriptions, and/or books. For most classes, the cost is under $75 (estimate). A supply list will be available on the course site in Canvas at least 30 days prior to the first day of class.

Once you have received your enrollment confirmation and logged in to Canvas, navigate to Upcoming Courses on the left-hand side of your dashboard. Supplies will be listed on your course homepage under the supplies heading. Some or all of your course supplies are available at the RISD Store.

Section Notes

This course requires access to Adobe Premiere Pro. Please visit the Adobe Premiere Pro website to check "minimum system requirements" for your computer before registering.

The last live class meeting for this course section is scheduled and will be held on Tuesday, November 11, Veterans Day.  There will be no makeup day because the course will meet on the holiday.
