Watercolor is beloved by artists for its spontaneity and layering ability. With a few basic principles, you can gain control of this fluid medium. Begin by playing with brush marks and how they interact with wet and dry paper. Prepare thumbnails to plan your design. Practice mixing colors and using them in washes and glazes. Once you are familiar with the basics, tackle how to capture a sense of light and surface texture in your paintings. You will complete a series of sketches and observational paintings like still lifes, portraits and simple landscapes that are bold and vibrant.
