Course Description

Craft beautiful, functional forms using sculptural design. Sculptural design is the modeling process used in fields such as industrial design, furniture and product design. Take inspiration from contemporary designers, then develop practical designs to solve everyday problems. Through the design process, you will gain practical skills in gathering insights and testing your ideas. Translate sketches into simple maquettes and refine your ideas through hands-on experimentation. Test how your user might interact with your design and update it according to what you learn. Participants will conceptualize and execute designs that emphasize both utility and aesthetic appeal.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify an everyday problem and develop a solution.
  • Convert two-dimensional sketches into three-dimensional prototypes.
  • Incorporate aesthetic decisions into a functional design.

Prerequisites

Students must be age 13–17 to participate.
