Course Description

Artwork by Alissa O'Brien

Join our class to develop your skills in capturing the beauty and essence of animals, specifically mammals. You’ll sharpen your observational drawing skills by studying the muscular and skeletal structure shared by all mammals to better understand characteristics unique to each species. You’ll also gain knowledge on animal behaviors and anatomical adaptations that allow species to survive.

Black and white media like graphite and pen and ink will allow you to sketch wildlife with accuracy and use line and value to express form. Mixed media techniques will also be explored using watercolor, colored pencil and gouache to capture accurate color and fine details to depict the defining characteristics of different mammal species.

Through a series of guided projects, the world of mammal life will come into focus and open the door to more discoveries about the animal kingdom.
