The underwater life in Narragansett Bay is an abundant source of creative and scientific inspiration. In Marine Marvels, campers will comb the beach for cool rocks, shells, flotsam and jetsam to incorporate into works of art. Through close encounters and interactive lessons, they will learn about marvelous animals such as fish, hermit crabs, slipper snails, quahogs and jellyfish.
Back in the studio, they will create art reflecting their observations and discoveries and develop their drawing skills through scientific illustration. They will investigate the expressive possibilities of watercolor, experiment with texture and form with clay, and work collaboratively on a large-scale project.
Notes
RISD Art Camp is a week-long day camp program for children 6-12 years old. Each day, campers celebrate their creative strengths while developing new artistic skills. Campers build their confidence, make new friends, and create imaginative works of art. RISD Art Camp is surprising, fun, carefully planned, and artfully coordinated.
Each Friday, families are invited to attend their campers’ art show to see the incredible art created that week.
RISD Art Camp organizes students by age group (6-8 and 9-12) during daily art activities. Studio activities and instruction are thoughtfully designed for each group’s age range and skill level. All ages can mingle during lunch, snack time, pick up and drop off.
