RISD CE architectural history course: Exploring Downtown Providence

Major architects created some of the nation’s most remarkable landmarks in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. See the first shopping mall in America, Russell Warren’s 1829 Greek Revival Arcade; Victorian office buildings in the Italianate; Renaissance Revival and Art Nouveau styles with elaborate cast iron ornament; and the masterpiece of Art Deco officially named the Industrial Trust Building, but popularly called the "Superman Building"; and the fascinating stories behind each.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.
