What is contemporary art? What are artists doing now, and how is it unique to the present? This class will explore the recent history of contemporary art and examine the artists, artworks, and ideas that have shaped it. We will learn about prominent themes that have occupied artists working around the globe, and the creative strategies they use to convey ideas. In open creative projects, you will experiment with these strategies as you explore contemporary concerns. You will be challenged to explore 2D, 3D and time-based approaches to media as you expand the ambition and criticality of your work. No prior knowledge or experience with contemporary art is required, but an open mind and a willingness to experiment are a necessity.
