Course Description

Immerse yourself in the inspiring landscape of Tillinghast Place as you explore drawing and painting in nature. Surrounded by coastal views, woodlands and open fields, you’ll learn techniques for capturing the natural environment in both representational and expressive styles. 

The course emphasizes observational skills, composition and color theory. You may work in graphite, ink, watercolor, gouache or acrylic, with guidance tailored to individual interests and skill level. Regular critiques and one-on-one instruction will help you build confidence in your creative voice while fostering a deeper connection to the natural world. This course is ideal for artists of all levels who are eager to engage with nature through art.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.

Necessary Supplies

Students are responsible for purchasing their own art supplies, equipment, and/or books. For most classes, the cost is under $125 (estimate). A supply list will be available on the course site in Canvas at least 30 days prior to the first day of class. 

Once you have received your enrollment confirmation and logged in to Canvas, navigate to Upcoming Courses on the left-hand side of your dashboard. Supplies will be listed on your course homepage under the supplies heading. Some or all of your course supplies are available at the RISD Store.
