Course Description

Artwork by Wren M

Drawing convincing characters requires an understanding of the human form. Build your understanding of the human body by studying proportions and where to place bony landmarks. Analyze muscles and bones and how they work together when we move. Once you have the basics, exaggerate and distort proportion and shape to create your characters. After taking this course, you’ll have a strong foundation for any illustrative works involving the figure.

This course may use anatomical images of the human figure. These images portray nude bodies to build understanding of kinesthetics and anatomy of the human form. In-person courses may also involve figure drawing sessions that feature a nude or lightly clothed model.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify key anatomical features and their positions on the form.
  • Depict anatomically believable characters.
  • Use movement and gesture to express mood and style.

Prerequisites

Students must be age 13–17 to participate.
