9504 - Pochoir Workshop: Stencil Printing Technique
Course Description

Pochoir is a stencil-based printing technique celebrated for its rich color and handcrafted precision. Originating in France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pochoir was used for limited-edition books, fashion plates, and artist prints where each color was applied by hand, producing results closer to painting than mechanical reproduction.
In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of pochoir while creating a small multi-color print. The class will cover image planning, color separation, stencil cutting, registration, and hand application of pigment. We will also look at historical and contemporary examples and discuss how artists continue to adapt pochoir for expressive, experimental work.
You will leave with a finished print and the skills to continue working independently. We’ll focus on hands-on exploration by creating prints that are unique to your process while learning techniques that can be applied across printmaking, illustration, and mixed media projects. Pochoir’s precision and versatility make it a perfect tool for adding pattern, depth, and personal flair to your work.
