Course Description

The digital revolution in photographic imaging is more than simply underway -- it won, but maybe you need a little nudge to make the move from film to digital? Whether you're an amateur photographer eager to understand the basics of digital workflow while sharpening your compositional eye, or a digital native who hasn't advanced beyond an iPhone's automated functions, this introductory course is the ideal opportunity. You'll begin with the rudiments of camera operation and handling to increase your confidence as you complete weekly assignments that build upon one another. These pictures are reviewed during class time in a focused critique led by your instructor, with participation by your classmates. Throughout the course, the history of the art form is presented to give students a context for their reengagement with digital photography. Students should bring a digital camera (with manual controls, if possible) and its manual to each class session.
