Course Description

For most artists, working from photographs is unavoidable -- in fact, photography can be an invaluable tool when used correctly. This workshop covers the benefits and pitfalls of drawing and painting from photo references, and reveals how to avoid the most common mistakes. We'll touch upon distortion and color correction; and explain why good photographs usually make bad paintings, and how to take your own successful photo references. Any fine artist or illustrator who uses photo references can benefit from this workshop. While it is especially useful for portraiture and figurative work, the concepts learned can be applied to landscapes or any other subject matter.
