Course Description

Photography by John Hames

At its core, photography is a simple process: Light is reflected from an object, directed and then recorded onto photosensitive material. This is the pinhole camera, or camera obscura, just as it has been used for hundreds of years. Technology marches on, and digital concepts have stretched photography to include ideas like JPEGs, pixels, and light metering, which often obscure the simple art and process of capturing light. This course introduces the concepts and practices of pinhole photography and adapts them to the world of digital photography. Open to absolute beginners and seasoned photographers alike, this course asks only that you enjoy a sense of discovery as you revisit photography's history through the eyepiece of its future.
