Course Description

RISD CE course: Drawing Workshop: Intermediate to Advanced

This class covers advanced topics in drawing for students who are interested in challenging themselves and advancing their drawing to a professional level. The workshop consists of slide lectures analyzing historical and contemporary master drawings, a discussion of materials and techniques, demonstrations, in-class drawing, and critique. The first day is spent drawing from a still-life setup, and the second day working from a model in an extended pose. Topics include value structure, mark-making, expressive contour lines, pentimento, linear vs. shape-oriented thinking, and technical vs. conceptual narrative.
