Course Description

RISD CE course: colored pencil on film

The course will provide an overview of botanical art, from scientifically accurate representations to creative celebrations of nature’s beauty. Working from live material including cut flowers and potted plants, you'll learn to plan drawings in stages from composition and sketch creation, to highlights and contours, to shading and developing the form's volume. In this course you will learn to work with colored pencils on fine-toothed, semi-translucent drafting film. Working this way allows you to create brilliant color using a technique that has the intuitive ease of drawing and the intensity of wet media (oils/acrylics). The high-detail illustrations that result seem to literally pop off the page.

In-person courses cannot substitute for required certificate courses.
