Watercolor painting can be both compelling and at times mystifying. In this introductory course, students will learn how to create well-designed and dynamic watercolors. We will go step by step, learning techniques for controlling the paint, gaining an understanding of the transparent qualities of the medium, and reviewing the planning process needed to create successful artworks. We will discuss value, composition and color theory as we explore the subtleties and complexities of this medium. Both wet and dry techniques will be introduced, along with washes, color lifting, glazing, use of mediums, masking and paper preparation techniques. Demonstrations and class exercises will help you build an understanding of watercolor's possibilities and the skills and experience to use this medium to achieve lively, vibrant and creative artworks.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.
