Course Description

Artwork by Aspen Leavitt

Learn the technique of claymation—a form of stop-motion animation in which objects and/or characters are sculpted from malleable and easy-to-use clay and photographed, step by step. You'll make the individual elements that are to appear in your animation, and consider how to sequence them into a narrative. Once this is worked out, individual photos are taken of each shot; when played together, a series of slightly changing, rapidly succeeding images perceived as motion—a claymation—results. Work is edited using the camera from an iPhone, iPad or tablet and an easy-to-install app as animated sequences are created frame by frame. You will focus on animating to music, as well as creating a clay figure that speaks dialogue.
