Course Description

Expand what you can accomplish in metal by incorporating wax carving and lost wax casting. Create models with rich textures and fine details, and experiment with this highly reworkable material to find new possibilities. Class begins by exploring both additive and subtractive processes explained through worksheets, video tutorials and demos. Throughout the course, you will strengthen your designs through research and sketches, and be challenged in the use of form, surface texture, and contrast. Finished wax pieces will be sent to a professional for casting in the metal of your choosing. You will then finish your casted works with a combination of sawing, filing, and surface treatments.
