Course Description

Marine creatures come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and patterns and have expansive creative illustrative possibilities. This course is an invitation to explore and illustrate algae, invertebrates and vertebrates living in our seas and oceans. Learn about marine algae and seaweed and their importance in the marine ecosystem, as well as how to add it to your artwork to depict marine environments. This colorful and fascinating world includes seashells, fish, marine mammals and their habitats. Photos will be supplied and students are encouraged to use their own references, both real life and photo. Emphasis will be given to observational drawing and composition to create compelling, accurate paintings using watercolors or gouache.
