Course Description

Amplify your portrait skills by studying the anatomy of the human face and head. Study facial proportions and how they're influenced by attributes like age, gender and ethnicity. Analyze facial planes and tackle complex angles with confidence. Make use of light, shadow and edges to give the impression of a subject that exists in three dimensions. Keen observational drawing skills will support your ability to capture likeness and convey facial expressions. 

Take a fine arts approach to portraiture while completing drawing exercises. and material explorations. Drawing human subjects is universally applicable in an artistic context, too. Whether your goal is to become a portrait artist or comic book illustrator, this course will provide valuable and applicable skills.

Learner Outcomes

  • Understand the basic anatomy of the human head.
  • Strengthen observational drawing skills. 
  • Capture likeness and expression through portraiture. 

Prerequisites

Students must be 13-17 years of age.
