Course Description

Color is one of the most powerful and complex tools that artists and designers can use. There are optical, psychological and cultural aspects of color that can be harnessed to influence emotions. Through a series of color theory exercises, experiment with color mixing and color relationships. Learn about how hues can be created by pigments or by light. Understand the difference between a hue, a tone and a tint. Play with warm and cool, primary, secondary and tertiary colors. This comprehensive introduction to color will allow you to unlock its expressive quality in your work.

Learner Outcomes

  • Define the vocabulary and concepts associated with color. 
  • Complete a series of color theory exercises and studies. 
  • Apply what you learned in a series of projects.

Students must be 13-17 years of age.
