Course Description

Alla prima means “at first attempt.” The expression is usually used in oil painting and refers to finishing a picture while the paint is still wet (working “wet-on-wet”). Here we’ll explore the fundamentals of building alla prima acrylic paintings. Using both the portrait and full figure, we’ll focus on gesture, anatomy, color and light. We’ll also cover more advanced techniques such as glazing in light and color, and transparencies using acrylic mediums.
