Create engaging visual stories that spark curiosity in the most imaginative of readers. Drawing inspiration from classic and modern children’s books, you will blend text and imagery into engaging scenes. Develop your characters through detailed character studies. Bring them to life by showing their interactions with their environment. Refine your artwork and prepare it for book layouts such as covers and two-page spreads. Finally, gain a basic understanding of the publishing industry and self-publishing options. This course will provide the foundation you need to bring your children’s book illustrations one step closer to market.

Learner Outcomes

  • Develop characters and settings through brainstorming and studies. 
  • Integrate image and text into narrative illustrations. 
  • Prepare layouts and spreads for publishing. 
  • Understand the basics of children’s book publishing.

Prerequisites

Students must be 13-17 years of age.
