9091 - History of Photography: 20th Century Trends

Course Description

This history of photography will investigate the evolution of the medium from the 20th Century to the present. We will look at everything from famous photographers, to movements that take photography into entirely new and different areas of our consciousness. We will examine rapidly changing technical developments as we reflect on a changing world, and understand how photography can be both an expression of our inner human nature and a ubiquitous presence in today’s digital world. Students will study this important period of history through photographs, lectures, discussion, individual investigation, written responses, and the production of their own images based on what is discussed.
