Course Description

Come to this class with a photo book project that you've been "meaning to do" (everyone has one): it could be a vacation story, a birthday or anniversary tribute, a baby book, or a portfolio of your art. Over the course of this class you'll select photos with an eye for juxtaposition, pacing and balancing images on a page. You'll choose a combination of landscapes, portraits, vignettes and details to tell a story through the pages of your book. Because smartphones and cloud-based storage give us the ability to take millions of pictures, part of this class will be learning how to manage your photo library. You will learn tools to liberate the best photos from your digital archive by using simple techniques to organize, select and edit images on your phone or computer and create print-on-demand books with these images. The course will suggest print-on-demand bookmaking resources for a range of budgets. By the end you'll be ready to press print on a photo book that you can hold in your hands, display on your coffee table, or give as a gift.
