9229 - Making One-of-a-Kind Bags Using Handmade Japanese Paper

Course Description

In this class, we will create a wearable handbag, purse, pocketbook or pochette using Japanese handmade paper. You’ll be introduced to the tradition and art of Japanese paper making, then choose from a range of traditional handmade papers and contemporary handbag patterns (or make your own pattern) to make a wearable bag out of paper. You will be encouraged to layer and experiment with paper and other textiles to create a unique wearable piece. Whether you want a simple tote or an embellished evening bag your creativity combined with the how-to in this class will allow you to make a special one-of-a-kind bag. Note: In order to make your bag wearable you will need basic machine sewing skills and a portable home sewing machine to bring to some classes.
