Course Description

Join Lois Harada at DWRI, a commercial print shop operating on the west end of Providence, and learn the basics of letterpress printing. Using two-cylinder proof presses, participants will learn how to set metal and wood type as well as how to cast custom type on a Ludlow typecasting machine to create posters and single-sided prints. We will also cover how to prepare and make polymer prints to print custom images and contemporary typefaces. Through the course of this class, you will learn how to choose the best papers for your printed edition, how to mix custom colors that match Pantones, and how to register multiple colors on the press.
