0624 - Design II
Course Description
This course establishes a broad framework for the application of design elements and principles, building toward complex and informed work. The design element of value is investigated further, and color and space are introduced. Value is considered in terms of light and dark and ways of creating a sense of space. Color is explored in terms of value, hue and intensity, and contextual influence. Spatial concepts of figure/ground, perspective, overlap, placement, projection, value and color are devices to suggest depth and create the illusion of space. A variety of compositional structures such as linear, clustered, radial, central, grid and lattice systems are explored. Upon completing the course, you will have a proficiency in design fundamentals, a new understanding for how these concepts influence a broad range of disciplines and the larger world of design, and fluency in identification of design elements and principles.
