Course Description

Artwork by James Goss

In this advanced course, students respond to a number of abstract prompts and begin to work in series, learning how to develop their ideas sequentially. Experimentation with the format and size of work, choice of painting surfaces, and non-traditional materials is encouraged with the goal of realizing their own personal language and direction. Assignments focus on abstract thinking and developing paintings based on themes chosen by each student. Most importantly, this course sets the groundwork for the Final Projects studio in the Painting Studies certificate program.
