Course Description

Fashion photography might well be called "fashionable photography" because the images change as trends fall in and out of favor. This is partly due to photographers being charged with shooting models and personalities with high styling and high concept. This advanced course introduces students to an ironically disproportionate area of the photography canon as they work in the studio and on location to capture photos that highlight design and human beauty. Students practice lighting and compositional "eye" while cultivating a greater appreciation for the design rules underlying all photographic endeavor. Genre specific lessons such as styling, rights and releases and shooter/subject rapport are also discussed. Group critique and guided self-assessment help students to become more artful and marketable photographers.
