Course Description

Photography is an art form in which the compression of three-dimensional space into a two-dimensional picture plane happens quickly, and often without the care of similar art forms like drawing and painting. The truth is, photography must also consider the rules of composition and their relationship to the elements and principles of design. Using lecture and an image-rich slideshow, the instructor introduces basic compositional control strategies that can greatly improve image making decisions. A shooting assignment allows you to apply certain ideas of effective composition to your images. Whether you're interested in portraiture, fine art, event photography or documentation, you'll come away with a greater appreciation of how to create images that evoke emotion, reveal meaningful intentions, and intrigue the viewer.
