Course Description

Continue your mastery of natural light, continuous light and external flash light sources as you take on the use of light modifiers and setups used for photographing products/objects. You’ll execute practical, small-scale still lifes at home using DIY lighting and materials, and also explore options for more advanced setups. Technical instruction in lighting and creating setups for still life will be provided in tandem with weekly creative exercises. Examples of historical and contemporary practitioners will also be shared.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.

All other prerequisites for Studio Lighting (Part A): Portrait Photography apply.

Necessary Supplies

This course requires a digital camera, preferably a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), mirrorless, or other camera with manual control capabilities. Additionally, you can expect to spend up to $125 (estimate) on supplies, equipment, software subscriptions, and/or books for this course. A supply list will be available on the course site in Canvas at least 30 days prior to the first day of class.

Once you have received your enrollment confirmation and logged in to Canvas, navigate to Upcoming Courses on the left-hand side of your dashboard. Supplies will be listed on your course homepage under the supplies heading. Some or all of your course supplies are available at the RISD Store.
