RISD CE animation drawing course

Get an introduction to methods of animation in Adobe Photoshop, building on the skills introduced in Digital Design Techniques. Using animation tools in Photoshop and frame-by-frame digital sequencing techniques, you will bring characters, objects, and graphics to life. The assignments revisit core rudiments of animation (timing, cycles, exaggeration) and progress to more advanced skills: walk cycles, metamorphosis, secondary motion, and straight ahead animation. Animation-specific drawing skills are a big part of this course, with a focus on developing a fast and loose sketching style similar to the hand-drawn animation techniques used by major animation studios. You will complete projects that demonstrate proficiency with the animator's workflow, from concept to completed short film, using a drawing tablet and outputting the work to high-quality video files.

Prerequisites

Students must be an adult age 18 or older to participate.
