Course Description

RISD CE photography course

A representational art form, photography depends upon relationships: artist and subject, parent and child, human and animal, spouses, siblings and our global relationship with the environment. Starting with the artist-to-subject connection, students in this advanced image-making class explore a range of bonds and relationships. The instructor presents examples of these bonds through the work of Rania Matar, Pieter Hugo, Robin Schwartz, Elinor Carucci and Nick Brandt. In response to these artists, you'll propose your own photographic essay built on the theme of 'relationships,' which you'll then shoot, edit and present for peer review.
