Course Description

RISD CE photography course

Street photographers deal with life as it happens, the unrehearsed subject in an unpredictable environment, where they observe and capture "the moment." You'll visit works of pioneers of the genre such as Cartier-Bresson, Winogrand and Helen Levitt, and contemporary practitioners such as Alex and Rebecca Norris Webb, and Suzanne Stein. In this course photographers will venture out into the real world and bring back images that speak not only of the reality of our time, but also timeless images that hold meaning beyond the moment captured. Our concerns involve an approach that is reactive to the world, and thus will be inclusive of photographers' interests, rather than exclusive to just a narrow scope of subject matter. Previous experience with photography similar to an introduction course is recommended.
